April 5, 1932- Feb. 1, 2011
Venita E. Stevenson, 78, of Sweet Home died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011.
Second oldest of nine siblings, Nita (pronounced “Neat”) was born to Guy and Gladys Honeywell in Wright City, Okla.
She married Sherm Stevenson on Nov. 16, 1947, in Paris, Texas.
Their first year was spent in short stays with family in Wright City, Okla., and Kilgore and Terell, Texas. Mrs. Stevenson’s father moved to Sweet Home before she was married and sent funds home to his family extolling the wonderful pay he was getting at the mill. Wanting to be with family, the Stevensons sold their car, bought bus tickets and moved to Sweet Home in 1948.
Mrs. Stevenson worked a short while as a waitress in Terell, but her time in Oregon focused on family.
The Honeywells gathered for holidays and many times for just the pleasure of it. Mrs. Stevenson was happiest with family; especially at holiday gatherings.
She loved nature, green things, flowers and birds often brought a tune to her heart and a song with a lovely voice.
Mrs. Stevenson has been an affiliate member of Sweet Home Assembly of God since coming to Sweet Home. In recent years, health limited her attendance, but her heart has always been for Jesus, His people and His Church, of which Sweet Home AOG is part.
Mrs. Stevenson is survived by her husband of 63 years, Sherman O. Stevenson; daughter, Deborah A. Rowley; brother Fred; sisters Darlene Gaskey and Peggy Honeywell; three grandsons; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert, Hank, Ralph and Buck; sister Kathy; and son, Richard.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Sweet Home Assembly of God, 890 Mountain View Road. A potluck will follow in the church fellowship hall. Bring a salad, dessert or side dish to help feed the throng. Chicken and drinks will be provided.
Contributions in Mrs. Stevenson’s name can be made to Sweet Home Assembly of God.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
