Vernetta Day-Gorham (Convis) died peacefully in Lebanon on Sept. 18, 2018 at the age of 84.
Always healthy and vibrant, Vernetta was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer Aug. 27, 2018 and by His Grace, passed quickly.
Vernetta is survived by her son Robert Day of Lebanon; daughter Shirley Day Ireland and son-in-law Steve Ireland of southern California; grandsons Aaron, Sean, and Marcus Ireland; granddaughters-in-law Sarah, Molly, and Dani Ireland; great-granddaughters Reagan, Paige, Tallulah, Emmy, Dayvie, and Finley Ireland; and great- grandson Waylon Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James T. Day, second husband Earle Gorham, sister Loretta Childers, brother Glenn Convis Jr, and her parents Glenn and Margaret Convis.
Vernetta was born June 28, 1934 in Yorkville, Ill. to Glenn and Margaret Convis.
She was a veteran who served her country in the U.S. Army. Vernetta married James Day in 1952 and their children were born in Joliet, Ill. The family headed west to Buckeye, Ariz., and after enduring 12 months of blistering heat, snakes, and scorpions, moved farther west to beautiful Long Beach, Calif.
Upon Jim’s retirement, Vernetta and Jim moved to Lebanon, to be near her beloved sister Loretta and brother-in-law Jim Childers, to enjoy the beauty and bounty of Oregon.
Vernetta loved the Lord and celebrated his grace every day of her life after being born again at the age of 29. She was the organist at her church, Full Gospel Church of Sweet Home, and played guitar for praise worship. If Vernetta had any doubts about your salvation, she was committed to educating you on Christ’s love and forgiveness.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Full Gospel Church of Sweet Home, 29336 Fairview Road, Lebanon.
Pastor Thomas Grenz will officiate the ceremony.
