Vernon Simpson

Vernon Simpson, 78, of Sweet Home, died Oct. 6, 2021.

He was born Dec. 28, 1942 in Copperas Gap, Ark., to Fay Robert and Stella Elizabeth (Wilson) Simpson.

His family moved to California in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and served for four years. After being discharged he lived in California and Texas. He moved to Sweet Home in 1986.

Mr. Simpson worked for Plantation Foods in Waco, Texas, longhauled for Elite Fleet and was a log truck driver for Valley View Logging.

He enjoyed reading mysteries and Louis L’Amour books.

He loved riding motorcycles and metal detecting.

Mr. Simpson is survived by his sister, Karen Nelson; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joyce Nelson; and brothers David and Bobby Simpson.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Sweet Home Pentecostal Church of God. Burial will take place at Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
