Violet Marie Grissom, 92, of Sweet Home died June 24, 2013.
She was born June 27, 1920 in Quanah, Texas to William H. & Lula (Baxter) Lang. She was proud of her meager but family-oriented upbringing.
She married Fred L. Grissom on July 28, 1939. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1975.
The Grissom family moved to Sweet Home in 1950, where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business for several decades.
Mrs. Grissom loved gardening and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and was valued by beloved children and grandchildren as fabricator, designer and tailor of their clothing. She was known all her life as a beautiful dancer and spent many joyful hours on the dance floor with a live band and a good dance partner.
She is survived by her son Robert; daughters Edna Pearson, Fern Grissom, Debrah Wolf and Kathy Steinbacher; sisters Costilla Carr of Heber Springs, Ark. and Louise Newman of Merced, Calif .; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Freddy and Billy Fred Grissom; granddaughters Cheryl Jean and Kimberly Michelle Grissom and 10 brothers and sisters.
A family graveside service was held on her 93rd birthday, June 27, 2013 at Gilliland Cemetery, Pastor Rick Ellingson officiating. A Celebration of life was held immediately following the service at the home of Kathy and Tony Steinbacher.
