Virgil D. Cheshier

Jan. 4, 1927 – April 9, 2006

Virgil Dean Cheshier, 79, of Sweet Home, died April 9, 2006.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1927 in Bingeu, Wash., the son of William E. and Jessie E. (Counts) Cheshier and the youngest of seven children.

Mr. Cheshier grew up in Washington, then entered the United States Navy during the Korean War. He settled in Oregon where he worked as a millwright. He loved horses, motorcycles, camping and fishing.

He was married to Margerie McClure; they later divorced. He remarried in the early 1960s to Janet Hufford. That marriage also ended in divorce.

Later, he lived with Julia Schatz. They were together until 1993, when she died.

He is survived by four children, John Maham of Lebanon, Mark Cheshier of Lebanon, Wanda Moseley of Lebanon and Leslie Leroy Cheshier of Lebanon; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughters Lori Ann Cheshier and Christy Lee Cheshier Eby, and his friend Julia Schatz.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Lewis Cemetery in Foster. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
