The Sweet Home Huskies split two volleyball matches last week, securing a 3-1 victory over North Marion on Oct. 17 but falling 3-0 at home to Newport on Oct. 15.
In their matchup against North Marion (1-11), the Huskies were led by strong individual performances. Keira Johnson went 25-for-25 from the service line with six aces and recorded nine kills. Kaitlyn Kennedy added 13 kills and eight aces. Natalie Smith had five kills, and Aaliyah Brown added four. Smith and Trinity Victor set up the Huskies’ attack with 14 assists and 18 assists.
On defense, Karissa Jewell went 12-for-12 from the service line and had 22 digs to anchor the Huskies’ back row.
“Jewell did a good job on serve receive,” head coach Katie Dargis said.
Two days earlier, Sweet Home faced Newport (5-12) at home, but struggled to keep up with their opponent, falling 0-3. Despite the loss, Kennedy went 16-for-16 serving with three aces, and Victor went 11-for-11.
At the net, Johnson led with six kills. Kennedy and Sophia Stock added four and three kills, respectively. Brown went 4-for-4 from the service line.
“At the net, we were a little low on our kill percentages and overall kills,” Dargis said.
The Huskies will look to build on their win over North Marion as they prepare for upcoming matches. Sweet Home played at Stayton (11-9) on Oct. 22 and will host their final home game against Cascade (10-7) on Oct. 24.
