Volleyball squad excells in the classroom

Volleyball team holds season 3.82 GPA; Four players receive all-league honors

Sweet Home High School’s volleyball team earned a collective 3.82 GPA during the season making it second place among 3A teams statewide.

“What can you say?” Coach Heide Nichol said. “They’re smart. They’re very motivated in the classroom and very hard working on and off the court. I think mostly they stay up till the work is done, and they use their time wisely.”

At the beginning of the season, the girls were in daily doubles, meaning practice before school and after school.

“I know they had to burn the candle at both ends plenty of nights,” Coach Nichol said. “They don’t complain about practice being too long. They don’t complain about homework.”

All-league awards were announced last week too.

Earning positions on the all-league team were Lisa Brocard, outside hitter, and Teresa Lewis, setter, on the first team. On second team were Ashley Horn, middle hitter, and Katie Reynolds, defensive specialist.

The team includes Lei Aloha Himan-Teves, Katie Reynolds, Teresa Lewis, Susie Sieg, Elissa McCartin, Ashley Horn, Ashley Smith, Nicky Emmert, Lisa Brocard and Kari McGuyre.
