Volleyball takes care of business against Gladstone

Sweet Home volleyball took care of business to advance to 5-2 in a 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 road win against a Gladstone team that is struggling this season at 1-6.

“Our focus this week was to go out and beat teams,” Head Coach Mary Hutchins said. “To get into the mindset of battling for every point and not just waiting for the other team to make errors.”

She said the Huskies did ‘bootcamp volleyball’ practice this week, focusing on some skills they have been struggling with.

“We spent a lot of time working on scenarios, defense, serve receive and cleaning up our setting,” Hutchins said. “The girls came out ready to play at Gladstone. Gladstone had two active middles and an outside hitter that hit hard angle on us. We did a good job of adjusting and staying in rallies and then taking momentum opportunities and using them in our favor. It was a good game to come out prepared and ready to play.”

This week the Huskies play at Stayton and Cascade at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. They will then participate in the Marist Round Robin Tournament at Marist High School on Saturday.

“Our focus now is a very tough opening week to league with Stayton and Cascade next week, and then a tourney filled with challenging top ranked teams on Saturday,” Hutchins said.
