Walter Wideman

Walter Amos Wideman, 94, of Albany died April 4, 2008.

He was born Jan. 2, 1914 in Woodburn to Edwin and Leah (Brubaker) Wideman.

He lived in Woodburn until his family moved to Tofield, Alberta, Canada when he was about 5. In 1924, his family moved to Sheridan. He was married there and began his family.

He served in the Army from Sept. 9, 1942 to Oct. 2, 1945 and received a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.

In the early 1950s, he, his wife and young son moved to Grants Pass. In the mid-1980s their family moved to Albany, Oregon.

Mr. Wideman was a logger and truck driver. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served in various ways in local churches in the communities where he lived. For the last number of years he was a member of Prince of Peace Community Church in Adair Village.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting with his many friends.

Mr. Wideman is survived by his wife, Berniece; son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Kathy Wideman; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Glassburn Wideman; an infant daughter; parents, Edwin and Leah Wideman and seven siblings.

A memorial service was held April 11 at Prince of Peace Community Church in Adair Village with graveside services at Sheridan Mennonite Church Cemetery in Willamina.
