The Linn Library League has put its bookmobile to bed for the winter without all books on board. “We understand that some people couldn’t return their books before we stopped our rounds,” says Bradley Jones, who runs the mobile library, “but we’d like to have all the books back when we resume service in the spring.” Jones asks that patrons who still have books out take them to one of the city libraries, where a Linn Library League volunteer will pick them up.
Intended to demonstrate the benefits of library services to people who lack them, the bookmobile visited Linn County communities without libraries from last May through November. Current funding doesn’t allow the League to continue running the bookmobile through the winter, but service should resume in early May, if not sooner.
The bookmobile is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oregon State Library; by the Meyer Memorial Trust; and by many local donors and volunteers. Persons interested in volunteering to help with the bookmobile next year should contact Linda Ziedrich, 503-394-3643, or May Garland, 503-394-3696.
