Washington State Patrol promotes Sweet Home graduate to sergeant

Peter Stock, a 1994 Sweet Home High School graduate, was recently promoted to sergeant with the Washington State Patrol.

Stock is the son of Christy Bernal and Nat Stock.

After a year at Oregon State University, Stock enlisted in the U.S. Army and military police. After serving in the Army, including 2 ½ years at Ft. Lewis, Wash., where he is now company commander of his reserve unit, Stock went to work as a dispatcher with the Oregon State Police. He had hoped to become a state trooper.

In 2002, he saw an opportunity with Washington and went to work as a trooper with the Washington State Police.

Of the 1,000 that tested, 250 were selected and narrowed further to 75 candidates. Of the 75, he had the highest percentage score on a five-part test.

He is a member of the Washington State Police Honor Guard; and in the past month was in Washington, D.C., at a ceremony to honor fallen law enforcement officers with President Obama.
