Water polo boys win 12-5

The Husky boys defeated South Salem at home Monday night 12-5 in water polo bringing their record to 3-1.

Jeff Stratman led the team with four goals. Matt Maloney scored one goal. James Davis and Larry Coulter each scored two.

“We looked really good in this game,” Coach Adam Lloyd said. “Our defense, again, was real solid. We were able to kind of do what we wanted on offense.”

The win followed a 10-6 win Thursday at West Salem.

“We were down early in that one,” Coach Lloyd said. “In fact at one point there we were down 4-1.”

After the first quarter, the Huskies battled back to take the win. Stratman leading scoring with five. Coulter scored three, and Malone and Ian Parks each added one.

The boys lost 13-5 to Sprague at home on Tuesday.

“We actually played with them going into the fourth quarter,” Coach Lloyd said. The Huskies trailed only by four, “so the boys are looking to be really competitive.”

Stratman scored two; Coulter, two; and Maloney, one.

The girls lost 8-4 to South Salem.

“They’re a young team,” Coach Lloyd said. “They’ve been coming along real nicely. We’ve been in every game. Our defense was great. South Salem kind of stifled our offense.”

Krystle Streight led the Huskies with three. Alice Davis scored one goal, and goalie Liz Anderson had 15 saves.

The girls lost 17-7 to Sprague, “a real good program,” Coach Lloyd said. “The thing I was impressed with, with the boys and girls, is at times we were able to play right with them.”

The girls led their game for a little bit, Coach Lloyd said. Streight and Nichole Martin each scored two, and Justine Calhoon led with three.

At West Salem, the girls lost 6-4.

“We kinda of let that one slip away from us,” Coach Lloyd said. “To give West Salem the credit, they really stifled us on offense.”

Streight scored two, and Calhoon and Davis each scored one. Anderson had 11 saves.
