Water polo players get first win

Sweet Home’s water polo team picked up its first victory of the season Thursday, Sept. 23, with a convincing win over league opponent Corvallis 11 €“ 3, at Corvallis.

The Huskies were led in scoring by junior Cory Martin and senior Alex Stupin with four goals each, and they got additional goals from seniors Sami Webb and Derek Jaques. Senior goalkeeper Brandon Courteau had five saves, holding Corvallis to three goals to help seal the victory.

“The entire team played very well,” said third year Coach Craig Martin. “They are progressing in their offense and defensive play very well. Their hard work in practice is definitely paying off.”

The Huskies will host perennial league rival South Albany at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30.
