Wayne Alan Nelson, 64, of Sweet Home died Aug. 10, 2017. He was born Nov. 28, 1952 in Portsmouth, Va. to June Elaine (Hanson) and Ernest A. Nelson.
He moved to Sweet Home with his parents and five siblings in September of 1968 from Mentor, Minn. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1970.
Mr. Nelson worked at Willamette Industries, Foster Division as a night watchman. He was also a dispatcher for Cascade Auto Wreckers for many years.
He was an avid sports fan. Mr. Nelson loved the Oregon Ducks. You could say he was their No. 1 fan. He enjoyed old cars, car shows, movies, listening to and collecting music.
He loved spending time with his family. His dogs were also a big part of his life.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his son, Scott A. Nelson and his daughter-in-law Deanna; father Ernest; siblings Vernon and sisters-in-law Linda, Wanda and brother-in-law Blake, Eugene, Connie and brother-in-law Will, Bonnie, and Rhonda and brother-in-law Rich; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and the rest of his family; and two wonderful caregivers: Natasha Funk and Candi Linn.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June E. Nelson (2016) and brother-in-law Lance D. Mason (2015).
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 17, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral will follow at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.
