We should only blame ourselves

Editor:

Unfortunately, nowadays it is acceptable to blame everyone but ourselves for the problems that we have.

The people of New Orleans chose to build their town in a place where half of the town is under sea level. This is at least the second time this town has been destroyed and yet again they are rebuilding in the same spot. They chose not to reinforce the levies even though they had the means. They chose not to evacuate the citizens even though they had plenty of warning and plenty of buses. Many of them chose to stay rather than leave their homes. This is very sad.

People who choose to build their houses and businesses on the beaches or on hillsides do so with the knowledge that there is always a danger, but it is their choice to choose location over safety.

Much has been said about the release of toxins when we use plastic containers in the microwaves to heat our food. Also recent studies indicate that heating and freezing of liquids in plastic bottles also releases toxins. Studies even indicate that the use of non-stick pans releases a toxin into your foods especially if they are scratched. Most of the chemicals we have in food we can?t even pronounce much less understand. But we all make the choice between quick and easy meals and clean-up and choose to ignore the dangers to our bodies. After all, who wants to cook, clean or scrub dirty pots and pans?

We choose to have unprotected sex, use illegal drugs and drink an excessive amount of our favorite booze and wonder why our children have birth defects. We chose divorce over marriage and wonder why our children get sick from the stress of our decisions. Stress is a major cause of several diseases, even in our children.

We blame God for our children?s birth defects, for cancer and AIDS and for the mess we?ve made of our lives; but to blame God for the consequences of our own choices is a bit of a stretch.

People ask how can your God be mean enough to send people to hell because they don?t agree with His teaching. I think people chose hell over God because it is much more fun to sin than to obey. God clearly gives us all this choice.
