Willamette Zone
South Willamette Zone Fishing Information
The salmon-steelhead bag limit has been increased to include one additional adipose fin-clipped steelhead, in those areas open to steelhead angling, in the mainstem Willamette River above Willamette Falls and its tributaries through Dec. 31, 2002. Elsewhere in the Willamette Zone, anglers are limited to two adipose fin-clipped steelhead per day.
CLACKAMAS RIVER: The river is low and clear. Anglers are catching a few steelhead in the early morning or late evening.
SANDY RIVER: The river is low and few summer steelhead are being caught.
WILLAMETTE RIVER: Angling should improve for steelhead and coho once the water starts cooling down.
*LAKES AND PONDS: Several hundred summer steelhead have been recycled from North Fork Trap to Faraday Lake. Estacada Lake, North Fork Reservoir, and Faraday Lake are schedule to be stock this week with legal rainbow trout.
Mid-Willamette Area:
SANTIAM RIVER: Over 81,000 spring chinook and 31,000 summer steelhead have passed the falls at Oregon City.
SOUTH SANTIAM: In the South Santiam, anglers have been doing best from McDowell Creek upstream to Foster Dam. Releases from Foster are at 650 cfs, the normal flow for August.
NORTH SANTIAM: There are also lots of fish throughout the North Santiam, though the bulk has moved up past Stayton. While fish can be hooked anytime of the day, best success is in the early morning and evening. Anglers are reminded that the river is now closed to angling for spring chinook salmon.
DETROIT RESERVOIR: Has been fair for trout with best results from trolling in the arms. Kokanee are also available if you can get down to about 80 feet where the water is cooler.
GREEN PETER RESERVOIR: The reservoir continues to produce good catches of 11-14-inch kokanee. Best results have come from trolling at 40-50 feet.
South Willamette Area:
McKENZIE RIVER from Leaburg to Bellinger was stocked with legal trout. Good catches of trout are being reported.
