Weyerhaeuser surprises eight local non-profits with cash gifts

ALBANY, Ore. – At a surprise party for eight Linn County non-profit and school organizations today, the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation awarded each group cash gifts, ranging from $1,000 to $4,000, as a “thank you” gift for their community contributions and accomplishments.

Among the recipients were First Christian Preprimary School, $4,000; Linn County CASA, $4,000; Albany Community After School Program, $3,000; Linn Christmas Greeters, $1,500; Albany Area Seniors, $1,000; Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, $1,000; Meals on Wheels, $1,000; and St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen, $1,000.

“We applaud the work these smaller groups are doing for our community, especially on very limited budgets,” said Fred Reed, vice president and mill manager of the Albany paper mill. “It is a pleasure to be among their supporters.”

The most recent grants are part of a year-round program with a mission to improve the quality of life in communities where Weyerhaeuser has a presence. The grants were reviewed and recommended by local managers of Weyerhaeuser operations in Linn County, where Weyerhaeuser employs approximately 1,200 people at nine locations.

Last year, the foundation donated more than $2.6 million to Oregon non-profit agencies and schools.
