My wife and I have recently bought a house in Sweet Home.
We have lived here about 1 1/2 years after living in Lane County about 50 years.
We find the people here are friendly. Even a teenager will occasionally smile and speak to us.
We walk in our area for our health and pleasure usually four or five times a week.
Last week we were accosted twice by two large dogs from their owners’ property.
Once, while we were on the opposite side on the sidewalk, a big black Lab circled us, barking all the time. The owner was shouting commands to the dog, all to no avail.
The owner apologized, but we do not feel safe walking by that place again.
The next day, we were walking to the Post Office, going along Sankey Park, and out from a yard came what appeared to be a pit bull straight at us. We didn’t know what to do.
I carry pepper spray, but I didn’t have time to get it from my pocket.
Now this occasion really put the fear in us. My wife is having trouble sleeping, and I am not able to get this off my mind.
Is there so much crime in Sweet Home that so many people think they need a guard dog?
Please, we need to walk on these public streets without fear of being attacked.
