Wildfire season turned out to be moderate one for Oregon

In the final tally, the summer of 2005 ranks as a moderate wildfire season for Oregon.. On forestlands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry, the current total of 12,343 acres burned is only 57 percent of the 10-year average.

But numerous small- and moderate-sized blazes could easily have grown into major incidents. Department firefighters responded to 27 significant fires during the summer.
