Samaritan Wiley Creek Community’s dietary manager Milli Bostrom has recently earned recognition from the Certifying Board of Dietary Managers designating her as a certified dietary manager (CDM), certified food protection professional (CFPP).
This is the highest level of professional achievement available from the Dietary Managers Association, which has more than 14,000 members representing nursing homes, hospitals, retirement facilities, schools and correctional facilities in the United States.
To achieve the CDM and CFPP credentials, candidates must successfully complete a five-hour, two-part written examination covering 10 competency areas of dietary management with three major content areas in nutrition, systems management and administration-production management as well as five competency areas covering food safety and sanitation.
Continual professional development activities are essential to enable CDM/CFPPs to cope with rapidly changing conditions, and they must recertify every three years by documenting these activities.
Bostrom has been with Samaritan Wiley Creek Community for four years. Prior, she spend 10 years as a cook in a logging camp in southeast Alaska. She has also owned her own small catering business and designed fresh and dried flower arrangements and bouquets.
“I love to cook, creating beautiful food that tastes good too,” Bostrom said. “I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve worked at Wiley Creek.”
Samaritan Wiley Creek Community, which opened in 1998 is a 42-acre retirement community offering both independent homes and assisted-living units within the lodge.
It is located at the corner of 49th Avenue and Highway 20 and can be reached at 367-1800.
