William Bass, 66, of Sweet Home died Feb. 26, 2009.
He attended Salem schools. He enlisted in the Army in 1961 just before finishing high school. He reported to basic training in Tennessee and served in Germany.
After returning from the service in 1964, he lived in Lebanon, working 18 1/2 years as an assistant super at Crown-Zellerbach until the paper plant closed in the early 1980s. He came to Sweet Home in 1988 and was working in a paper mill in Halsey until he retired in 2001.
Mr. Bass liked the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved to drive quads and camp with his family. He also enjoyed drives in the woods and visiting the dam. He was a life member of American Vets. He was also a member of the Springfield Elks, American Legion in Lebanon, Eagles and Moose Lodge.
Mr. Bass is survived by his partner and companion of 20 years, Teri Spier of Sweet Home; daughter Stephanie Ballard of Albany; son Billy Bass and his wife Cristy of Lebanon; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the VFW Club.
