Aug. 20, 1926-Feb. 3, 2006
William Louis Toweill, 79, died Feb. 3, 2006 at Country Spice Residential Care Facility in John Day.
He was born Aug. 20, 1926 in Hennessey, Okla. He moved to Oregon in 1944. While living in Sweet Home, he met and married his wife, Madeline. They were married 49 years and had two sons, Louis and Dale. After her death in 1994, he was remarried to Hazel.
Mr. Toweill began work as a logger in the forests around Sweet Home. He loved caring for his trucks, which quickly made him a sought-after mechanic. He tried his hand at commercial fishing off the Oregon Coast in the 1960?s and from there he gravitated to road construction, buying into a family business, Linn-Lane Construction, and finally becoming sole owner of the company.
Along the way, Bill learned to fish and hunt, outdoor activities that he shared with his wife and two sons. Many fond memories are associated with hunting trips in eastern Oregon.
He is survived by: his two sons and their wives, Louis and Barbara of Yakima, Wash., and Dale and Dee of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Care of Spokane, Wash., and Joe Care of Sweet Home; sister, Mabel Howard of Sweet Home; and special family friend Linda Nivison.
He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline, and his second wife, Hazel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Driskill Memorial Chapel of John Day handled the arrangements.
