Errors cost the Huskies a game against Santiam Christian at home Monday night.
Santiam Christian defeated the Sweet Home High School baseball team 9-5 in Sweet Home.
Santiam took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Huskies scored a run in response. A rally to tie the game in 3-3 in the fifth was too late as Santiam scored two runs in the sixth and seventh to blow by the Huskies.
Justin Rice got the loss on the mound for Sweet Home. Otis got the win.
Rice went 2-4, with a double, to lead the Huskies at bat. Jeremy White and Drayson Scott added singles.
Colton Holly scored two runs, and Scott scored one run.
Hunter Bidwell, Justin Rice and Scott each had a stolen base.
Justin Rice started the game, pitching three innings, striking out four batters and walking two.
White pitched two in relief, striking out four batters and walking three, and Scott pitched two innings, striking out three and walking two.

Newport 3, Sweet Home 2
The Huskies lost a close one to Newport 3-2 at home on Friday.
“A couple of close plays that could have gone either way seemed to be the story of the game,” said Coach Matt Matuszak.
Winning pitcher for Newport was Zach Bearden with Cory Hanks getting the loss on the mound.
J. Rice, going 2-3, had the only two hits of the game for Sweet Home.
Newport opened the game scoring two runs. Newport scored a third run in the fourth. The Huskies put together two runs, White and Hanks, in the bottom of the fourth.
On the mound, J. Rice pitched one-third of an inning, striking out one batter and walking one. Scott pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, striking out five batters and walking three, while Hanks pitched three innings, giving up two hits, striking out three and walking two.

Sweet Home 6, Cascade 2
The Huskies defeated Cascade 6-2 at home in their baseball season opener.
Hanks got the win on the mound, going three strong. Scott threw three innings in relief, and J. Rice threw the final inning in a combined one-hit game.
The pitchers struck out 13 while walking three and gave up no earned runs.
Scott had the only two hits for the Huskies, while Bidwell had a big two-RBI double squeeze.
The Huskies led 3-0 at the bottom of the second inning. Cascade scored two runs in the next, while the Huskies closed out scoring with three runs in the fourth.
