Winner sets course record in fifth annual Dam Run 5K

Jakob Hiett took a break Saturday morning from high school cross-country to – win another race.

Hiett set the course record in the fifth annual Dam Run 5K, with a finish time of 16:26.99.

Miriam Swanson was the first woman finisher, in 26:02.92.

This year’s event, put on by the city Youth Advisory Council, was held as a fund-raiser for the Sweet Home Walk for the Cause Group, which supports programs and services focusing on prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer in Linn County.

It replaced the annual Sweet Home Satellite Walk for the Cause event, which is usually held in conjunction with the Sweet Home Harvest Festival in October. South Santiam Sweet Potato Queens Tammy Kay and Tammy Rogene, who have been heavily involved in the walk in the past, helped with the run Saturday.
