An Albany woman was arrested early Saturday morning on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her 3-year-old child.
An Albany Police officer stopped 32-year-old Rebekah Gasperino at around 2:30 a.m. that morning for a traffic violation. According to a news release, information developed during the stop that Gasperino may pose a danger to herself or to others.
So officers were dispatched to check the well-being of her child at her home in the 2000 block of Sun Place SE in Albany. During a search of the residence, the child was found deceased. No other children were in the home.
Gasperino was transported to the Albany Police Department and later taken into custody on the first-degree murder charge. The child’s father and extended family members have been notified and are cooperating with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
