A Sweet Home woman was killed and a Sweet Home man injured in a motorcycle crash on Foster Dam Road early Saturday morning.
Victoria Sophia Richards, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bobby Ray Hancock, 40, was transported to Samaritan Regional Hospital in Corvallis by REACH air ambulance. He was in stable condition Monday.
Police and medics responded to a report of the motorcycle crash at approximately 2:16 a.m. on Saturday, said Police Chief Bob Burford. The caller reported a motorcycle and debris in the roadway, but no victims were found.
“Arriving officers searched the area, locating two victims some distance from the roadway and on the west face of the dam,” Burford said.
The motorcycle was leaning against the east guardrail just south of the dam structure above the earthen portion of the dam, south of the spillways. The victims were located across the roadway and over the west guardrail near the bottom of the dam.
The Linn County Major Accident Investigation Team responded and is assisting in the investigation of the crash, including who was operating the vehicle, Burford said. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor, according to police.
