Fire destroyed the home of a Cascadia man Saturday afternoon.
Sweet Home firefighters responded to a fully involved fire in the single-wide manufactured home at 47620 Cascadia Drive, east of the intersection of High Deck Road and Cascadia Drive and Short Bridge, at 2:34 p.m.
The cause of the fire was “combustible material too close to a wood stove,” said Fire Chief Dave Barringer. Somebody had stoked the fire in the wood stove, and it later ignited the wall material behind the wood stove.
The occupant was sleeping on the couch, Barringer said. When he awakened, he saw the fire behind the wood stove and evacuated the building.
Thirteen firefighters responded in seven vehicles, including four water tenders, to the fire, Barringer said. Lebanon and Brownsville each sent a water tender.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 for the structure and $10,000 for the contents, Barringer said.
Donna Menear Price has launched a Go Fund Me page for the occupant, Richard Hall, a longtime resident of Cascadia. It may be accessed at http://www.gofundme.com/trailer-completely-destroyed-by-fir.
“He lost everything,” she said. “He will need a small trailer to live or a rental house – Also food and clothing.”
Monday afternoon, the page had raised a single donation of $40.
