Husky grapplers head to the district tournament Friday and Saturday at Cascade High School intent on sending a strong contingent of wrestlers on to the state meet in Portland.
Thursday night the Huskies drubbed Molalla 56-15 under the Husky lights.
“I was happy overall with the meet,” Coach Steve Thorpe said. “It’s always an emotional time on senior night. It’s their last time in front of the hometown crowd.”
The Huskies had several strong wins and a couple of upsets in the Capital Conference outing.
“I’d say John Farris’ pin at 119 was a big win for us,” Coach Thorpe said. “John keeps on improving and works very hard. Andrew Swanson has worked very hard with him and has taken him under his wing.”
Other wrestlers who earned praise from Thorpe were Robert Carr at 145 and Joe Rosa at 152.
The Huskies end their league season 5-0 and 14-10 overall.
“Our goal this week is to focus no individual efforts in practice,” Coach Thorpe said. “We’ll be working on shorter times with greater intensity.”
As a league, Coach Thorpe said the Huskies will be in the thick of things but will see some strong matches with Cascade and Molalla.
