Thorpe took a team of Husky wrestlers to the High Desert Duals freestyle tournament at Redmond April 9, “kind of a fun thing.”
Sweet Home’s team, which included some wrestlers from Sprague, now coached by Sweet Home alumnus Kyle Temple, took second behind a combo team from Pentleton/Riverside.

Colton Schilling and Kris Newport, both of whom won state titles at the OSAA 4A championships in February, followed that up with victories at the Cultural Exchange Trials at Thurston on March 12.
Schilling, wrestling at 125, will travel to eastern Russia later this year with the USA Oregon team. Newport, who plans to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College next fall, has decided to forego his 160-pound berth and concentrate on getting ready for school, Coach Steve Thorpe said.
Other Husky wrestlers who placed at the trials were freshman Justin Nicholson, second at 105; junior Scottie Stockman, fourth at 125; sophomore Tyler Cowger, third at 145, and junior Trever Olson, fourth at 145.
