Write-in candidate winners named for Sweet Home School Board

Winners have been finalized for Sweet Home School Board seats on the ballot in the May 18 election, including write-in vote recipients for seats for which candidates registered in the May 18 election.

In the only contested race for a board seat for which candidates registered, Zone 8 (at large), Jim Gourley finished with 656 votes (43.73%), ahead of Elizabeth Ruck (424/28.27%) and Dale Keene (410/27.33%).

Ruck, however, posted on her Facebook election page that she had meant to register for the Foster seat instead of the open at-large seat, and asked voters to write her in as a candidate for that seat.

According to final results unveiled last week by the Linn County Elections Office, Ruck received 177 write-in votes for the Foster seat, far more than more than 50 other write-in recipients.

Sara Hoffman received 63 write-in votes for the Holley seat, ahead of Linda Morelli, who had 31, in a field of 60 vote recipients.

John Marble received the most votes among some 45 write-in candidates for the Crawfordsville seat, finishing with 11, one ahead of Jenna Northern (10).

The other winners of School Board races, who were not challenged, were incumbents Jason Redick and Jason Van Eck.

The new board members will be sworn in July 12.
