Young Huskiettes wind up dance season with 9th place at state

The Sweet Home High School Huskiettes dance team finished ninth in the preliminary round of the state dance competition held Friday and Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum.

Teams competed in the preliminary round Friday. The top six advanced to the final round Saturday.

Sweet Home finished in the 4A/3A/2A/1A division preliminary round with 59.58 points. Valley Catholic won the top trophy with 86.6 points in the preliminary round and 87.75 points in the final round.

“They looked great,” said Coach Eohe Howerton of her team. “It was their best performance of the year. It was a building year for us. I’m looking forward to next year.”

Most of the Huskiettes are freshmen or out for their first year of dance, Howerton said.

They performed at three additional competitions this season. They performed locally during a dance exhibition held March 12 in the SHHS Main Gym.

Team members are senior Marissa Green; junior Hazel Blank; sophomores Jayme Malloy and Karla Perez; and freshmen Lexi Yoder, Jerusalem Jiminez, Kiersten Cockrell, Kaitlyn Victor, Hailey Green and Abby Jernejcic.
