Young softball players get a preseason pitching clinic from expert coach

Local softball players got a chance to learn from an expert Sunday afternoon during a clinic at the Sweet Home High School Activites Gym.

Clinician Ken Roudybush, who runs Softball Oregon, gave the girls tips during the two-hour event. Roudybush has trained more than 5,000 pitchers over the past 20 years, many of whom have gone to college.

The Sweet Home Softball Association will sponsor tryouts for the 2008 spring and summer travel teams.

Players ages 10-12 are encouraged to attend the tryout for the 12-and-up team from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 2. Any player 11 to 14 years old is welcome to try out for the 14-and-up team from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both tryouts will be held at the high school activity gym.

Those players selected to the team will need to pay a $100 participation fee. This fee will pay for tournament fees, uniforms, and other costs. The only other costs involved will be travel to the tournaments, most in the Willamette Valley.

If you have quesions or concerns, or if you can’t make the tryouts because of a prior commitment, contact Steve Hummer at 401-4456 or Shane Cochrane at 409-1337.
