Zach Gill won an individual championship, while several other Sweet Home Mat Club and Sweet Home Junior High School wrestlers placed in the Oregon Classic tournament Jan. 10-11 in Redmond.
Gill placed first in the Schoolboy (ages 12-13) division at 210 pounds.
Colton Schilling placed second at 91 pounds in the Schoolboy division, while Austin Bruijin was third at 210.
Nate Melcher was fourth at 136, also in the Schoolboy division.
Trever Olson was third at 125 pounds in the Cadet division (ages 14-15).
Also wrestling over the two-day event were Brenton Moore and Travis Thorpe as Bantams (ages 6-7), experiencing their first trip to the Classic; Novices (age 10-11) Brandon Keenon, Chris Melcher, Tyler Schilling and Schoolboys Brian Malloy and Ian Search.
“These kids battled over the two-day event and wrestled some fantastic matches,” Coach Steve Schilling said. “They all have a great support system with families cheering and coaching into late Sunday; that encourages them to continue to wrestle hard as the day wears on.”

Four Sweet Home Junior High wrestlers qualified for the Oregon National Middle School Dual Team, which will travel to Danville, Ill. March 27-30 to face other middle school teams from across the nation.
Colton Schilling qualified for the Gold Team at 90 pounds, while Colby DeCleave (125), Nate Melcher (132) and Zach Gill (215) made the Silver Team. The trials were held Saturday, Jan. 17, at Scappoose.
