Andrea Yunke fired in nine goals in what coach Rene Kirkland called a “great game for her” as the Husky girls defeated North Eugene 15-9 Thursday at home.
North Eugene took the first quarter lead, 5-2, but saw Sweet Home come back strong in the final three quarters, outscoring them 3-1, 5-1 and 5-2.
“Andrea gained a lot of confidence this game,” Coach Kirkland said. “We’ve been trying to get her to be more aggressive. She’s finding out that she can do a lot more things.”
Megan Foucht aided Yunke’s efforts, hitting five goals.
“Megan’s ball placement was outstanding,” Coach Kirkland said. “Her shots were very well placed. I think she only missed one attempt and she had three assists.”
First-year goalie Amber Larson had seven saves for the Huskies in what Coach Kirkland called a ” very nice job in only her third game.”
Coach Kirkland said North Eugene showed a lot of speed and had good ball handling.
“They had a relaxed defense and didn’t get in our face which allowed us to go after them,” Coach Kirkland said.
One North Eugene player scored three goals.
“They moved the ball well but also had several rookies,” Coach Kirkland said. “We set the pace where we wanted.”

North Eugene 12
Sweet Home 8
A poor first quarter cost the Sweet Home boys a shot at a win Thursday. North Eugene hammered the Huskies 5-1 in the opening round.
Sweet Home came back to play aggressive ball in the remaining three quarters. The Huskies outscored their opponents 4-2 in the second quarter, were down 3-2 in the third and 2-1 in the fourth.
Goalie Tyler Hannen had at least seven saves, Coach Kirkland said.
Chris Bate moved out of the hole position to balance the attack and Rhys Birky showed strong improvement as the team struggled to make up for the loss of Sean Martin who was injured in practice.
“We played a good game, we just came out a little flat,” Coach Kirkland said. “They out swam us. With the loss of Sean Martin, we can feel it on defense.”
Jeff Ecker hit his stride, scoring three goals.
“This was a break through game for Jeff,” Coach Kirkland said. “He found his niche. He had confidence and placed his shots well.”
Chris Bate aided the effort with two goals and three assists.
Chris White was the big gun for N. Eugene, hitting six goals.
Coach Kirkland said each of the teams has gained a player since the start of the school year, placing eight on the girls roster and nine on the boys.
