Zeldia Darby

May 14, 1922 – May 1, 2006

Zeldia Darby, 83, of Sweet Home, died May 1, 2006 at her home. She was born May 14, 1922 in Turner to Vince and Louisa (Smith) Paddock, and lived in Sweet Home most of her life. She married Boyd E. Darby in Vancouver, Wash. They had one child, who died at birth.

Mrs. Darby and her husband fostered many children and ran a sporting goods store, ABCO, in Foster. They lived at the back of the store. They did fire watch for a while and later moved into town.

She liked to make quilts for the missionaries and the Fire Department. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She always had a pet. She loved activities such as outings to Clear Lake and family fun. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxilary.

She is survived by her brother. Dan Paddock of Sweet Home; her sisters, Arlene Wilhelm of Imbler and Betty Wilhelm of Heppner; and many foster children and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd, and her brothers Linn and Dean and sister Lela Pace.

Funeral services were held May 6 at Sweet Home Mennonite Church. Final burial will be at Liberty Cemetery. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
