Sweet Home’s mayor will declare an emergency Saturday as a zombie apocalypse arrives in Sweet Home.
A two-mile Zombie Zoup fun run begins at 10 a.m. on Oct. 29 at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 880 18th Ave. The route folllows 18th Avenue and Elm Street to the South Hills Trail, then returns via 10th Avenue, 12th Avenue and Sankey Park.
The run will be followed by a Zombie Zoup soup lunch for all participants and anyone else who would like to consume some.
Zombies will be strategically placed along the race route to, er, help runners move along the way, but will not impede their progress – well, not excessively, anyway.
Participants are enouraged to dress up. The event will include prizes for the best costume.
Lunch will be at 11 a.m. in the Boys and Girls Club gym at the Community Center. A variety of soups will be prepared and served by individuals, organizations and businesses.
Lunch is free for runners and costs $10 for walk-ins. Families can eat for $20.
Entry fee is $20 if pre-registering and $25 the day of the event. Adult shirts cost $15 while they last. Children’s shirts are $10. Registration forms are available at City Hall, 1140 12th Ave.
Proceeds will go to Sunshine Industries for a new lift van.
On Facebook, the run is listed as an event under the Sweet Heart Run’s page.
Those who feel too dead to run are needed as volunteer zombies and for other functions.
