Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Dec. 3, is chicken salad or an egg BLLT over spinach Romaine, cream of tomato soup, a whole wheat roll and pineapple tidbits.

The menu on Monday, Dec. 6, is beef tomato macaroni or sweet and sour chicken with brown rice, broccoli, creamy coleslaw, an herb roll and spiced applesauce.

The menu on Tuesday, Dec. 7, is a hearty chicken stew or cheese and green chile bake, spinach Romaine salad, California-blend vegetables, a multigrain roll and vanilla pudding.

SHEM accepting Christmas boxes

Sweet Home Emergency Ministries is accepting applications for Christmas boxes until Sunday, Dec. 4.

SHEM coordinates these boxes for the needy with community partners, including churches and civic organizations.

Applications are available from a box in front of the SHEM building at 1115 Long St. or at the webpage at http://shemfoodbank.org.

Leaf collection continues

The City of Sweet Home is collecting leaves on city streets through Friday, Dec . 17.

Residents are asked to put loose leaves in piles on the street, away from parked cars and a foot away from the curb to allow for water drainage. Leaf piles should be larger than a 90-gallon debris can and must not contain limbs, yard debris or any type of bagging materials.

City crews will collect the leaves upon request.

SHHS ski club fundraiser Dec. 2

Sweet Home High School’s Ski and Ride Club will present the Warren Miller film “Future Retro” and a silent auction at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, in the commons area at the high school, 1641 Long St.

Auction items include Hoodoo Ski Bowl passes and merchandise, lumber and bark dust from Weyerhaeuser and gift certificates/baskets from Parrish Land Clearing, Sayer Farms, Holy Cow Butcher, Tolman Dentistry, Wolthuis Dentistry, Thriftway, Les Schwab, Ace Hardware, Safeway, the Rio Theater, OK Country Feed, P3D, Hevi Shot, Growler Cafe, All Star Pizza, Crocker’s Cars. O&M Point S Tires and the A&W Restaurant.

Sharing Tree program continues

The Sweet Home Volunteer Firefighters Association is conducting its annual Christmas for Kids Sharing Tree Program.

Children up to age 12 are eligible.

Parents who wish to have their child’s name placed on the Sharing Tree should fill out a request form, which can be found online at forms.gle/k3eKS6zxqura8eP39 or picked up by Dec. 3 at the Sweet Home Fire District office, 1099 Long St. Deadline for returning paper forms is Dec. 3. Online forms are submitted automatically.

Cash donations for the Christmas For Kids Sharing Tree toy program may be made at the office. All cash donations will be used to purchase toys and needed clothing for local children. The names of children and families needing assistance will be placed on the tree at the Fire Department.

Anyone interested in “adopting” a family should contact the Fire District office at (541) 367-5882 and leave a message on the Sharing Tree voicemail.

Join Sweet Home Lights Tour

Sign-ups are available to participate in the upcoming 2021 Sweet Home Lights Tour, slated for 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.

All entries will be eligible to win People’s Choice and/or Realtor’s Choice prizes.

The $20 entry fees are due by Monday, Dec. 6.

Take part in Shop with a Cop Dec. 4

The Sweet Home Police Department is accepting applications for its Saturday, Dec. 4, Shop with a Cop program.

The event is open to Sweet Home children aged 4 to 12. Participants must be present and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children should also live within the Sweet Home School District boundary.

During Shop with a Cop, children will receive a credit to shop at Bi-Mart with police officers. In addition, they’ll meet Blue Santa and members of the Sportsman’s Holiday Court, who will assist in wrapping gifts.

Sweet Home tree auction set Dec. 4

The Sweet Home Alumni Association has announced the annual “Trees for Scholarships” auction, “It’s a Country Christmas,” scheduled Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam, 880 18th Ave.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., followed by a silent auction, a dinner at 6 p.m. and the live tree auction at 7:30 p.m.

Dinner seat reservations are $30 general or $240 for a table of eight.

Decorated trees for the auction can be donated, as can silent auction items or themed baskets. Trees can be sponsored for $400.

B&G Club to hold warehouse sale

The Lebanon Boys & Girls Club will hold a holiday warehouse sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the club’s headquarters.

Items for sale have been donated by Lowe’s Distribution Center in Lebanon. Items include flooring, tile, home improvement, bathroom, hand tools, power tools, small electronics, décor and yard and garden.

Funds raised go directly to support scholarships for children participating in Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam programs and services.

Christmas gala scheduled Dec. 11

Cascade Timber Consulting, Inc., is holding its Christmas gala at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the auditorium at Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St.

A VIP reception will begin at 6 p.m.

The event, hosted by Robert Burford and Miriam Swanson, features area performers Stefani Brown, Cathy Cheshire, and David and Titus Dominy. Alison Hurst, Mac MacNulty, Melody Reese, Tom Jordan and Scott Swanson. Special guest is Jessie Leigh.

Holiday store opening for youth

The seventh Christmas Store for Sweet Home youth between ages 2 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hope Church, 890 Mountain View Road.

The free event is for children and their families. Personal shoppers take them to each gift table, and presents are wrapped for placement under the family Christmas tree at home.

Holiday events set before parade

A number of events will be held in league with the 2021 Parade of Lights, running down Long Street from 22nd Ave. to Oak Terrace at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.

A Christmas Block Party holiday bazaar begins at 10 a.m. inside the former Wells Fargo bank building, 1266 15th Ave. The event is sponsored by Oak Creek Collection, Sweet Home Shabby Chic and Tipsy Gypsy Tap Trailer. The Oregon Kettle Corn Company will also be on hand.

The “Blue Santa,” held in conjunction with Angila Tack Food Services and the Sweet Home Police Department, also runs on the property from 4 to 6 p.m. Children will be able to take pictures with St. Nick during the event.

The Sweet Home Christian Church is hosting a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the church, 1825 Long St.

Celebrate holidays with After 5

After 5 Connection returns with “Hang Your Stockings with Care,” a program to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Highway, Lebanon.

All ladies and gentlemen are invited. Guest speaker Laura Loffredo, a retired bed-and-breakfast owner from Chicago, will reenact Biblical scenes featuring Mary learning she is to become the mother of the Messiah. The evening will also include a traditional sing-along, fun and food. Please bring a wrapped pair of fun socks for a gift exchange.

Cost is $15, which includes everything. Credit cards cannot be accepted.
