Openings for youth leadership program
Know a local teen who you think would make a good leader?
The Rural Community Leadership Program is offering a local program to train leaders. The program is designed to give young people opportunities to connect and learn skills necessary to tackle local rural challenges and opportunities.
Typical classes consist of 25 to 35 youths who are in seventh through ninth grade. Each class selects a community project to work on, which provides participants a chance to apply skills learned from the curriculum.
The first class will be Monday, Jan. 18 and the last of the nine sessions will be May 26, which will include a graduation event.
Training will include discussion of what it means to be a leader, working effectively across differences and in groups, asset- and values-driven community building, presentations and advocacy, communication and conflict, group decision-making tools, how to plan and implement a project, and how to get stakeholders and volunteers involved.
Openings remain for participants in the Sweet Home class. To nominate a participant, contact Jessie Katon at [email protected] or call (541) 521-1136.
