K9 scavenger hunt to benefit Gemma

The Sweet Home Police Department’s annual Cascade K9 Jamboree will kick off Thursday, Oct. 29.

This year, instead of a live festival with a wide variety of canine-oriented events, the event is a photo scavenger hunt that will run through Dec. 4, with a drawing for prizes on Dec. 5.

The event is still dog-oriented and will still benefit SHPD’s canine program, headlined by Gemma, the drug-detection specialist.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 29, visit the Sweet Home Police Department and locate the image of Gemma, SHPD’s drug detection dog. Take a photo of you or you and your dog with Gemma and send the photo to SHPD via Facebook Messenger.

Gemma will hold clues to the next stops. Use those clues to find her again and continue submitting photos. Each photo submitted by participants will give players one entry into a drawing for gifts and prizes donated by local businesses.

Registration is $35. Registrations will be accepted through Nov. 18. Each registrant will receive a Gemma t-shirt and dog bowl. The t-shirts will be available while starting supplies last. Bowls and additional t-shirts will be available at the end of the event.

Proceeds from the 2020 Cascade K9 Jamboree help pay for supplies, training, and veterinary services to ensure Gemma can continue to assist police officers in their fight against crime.

Dogs/pets are not required to participate.

Register in person at the Sweet Home Police Department (cash or check only), 1950 Main St., City Hall at 3225 Main St., The New Era at 1313 Main St., Sweet Home Choppers at 4639 Main St., or the Chamber of Commerce at 1575 Main St. Or register online at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/cascade-k9-jamboree-photo-scavenger-hunt-tickets-126342274143.
