SHHS play set for Thursday, Friday
Sweet Home High School will present the play “Shuddersome: Tales of Poe,” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, Thursday and Friday in the auditorium, 1641 Long St.
The cost is $2 for students, $4 for adults and $10 for families.
Christmas set-up volunteers needed
Organizers of the Christmas celebration in Sweet Home, which begins Dec. 1, need help setting up and taking down Christmas Card displays around town.
The 4- by 8-foot plywood Christmas Cards will be displayed in yards, particularly at churches and businesses, throughout the community.

karaoke event
The Special Olympics of Linn County will host a karaoke night from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at WVRC, 1853 West Airway Road, Lebanon.

Youth bowlers to
hold food drive
Linn Lanes and the Youth Bowling Program host a food drive beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2250 S. Main Road.
Oregon State University football players will be present from 10: 30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and those who donate 10 non-perishable food items during that time will be entered in a drawing for prizes.
The food drive continues until Dec. 20. For every two non-perishable (not expired) food item donations, receive a coupon for a free bowling game or soda. One coupon per person, per day, is allowed.
1-mile run to kick
off holiday season
Lebanon Downtown Association hosts its first annual Jingle Bells one mile fun run/walk starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Ralston Park.
The event features an ugly sweater contest. Registration costs $10 per person. Kids under 5 walk free. Sign in 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Wreath-making
at ranger station
Sweet Home Ranger Station offers a holiday swag and wreath-making workshop at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 4431 Hwy. 20.
Learn to assemble holiday swags and wreaths from locally pre-collected forest products, such as boughs, cones, and berries. A limited number of wreath rings will be available, so participants are asked to bring their own, if possible, along with clippers and wire. The event will be held in a conference room or heated warehouse.

Storybook Land
opens Dec. 1
Storybook Land will open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays, between Dec. 1 and 14, at the Linn County Fairgrounds livestock pavilion in Albany.
The free event includes 115 scenes from fairytale and family movies in a forest setting with Christmas lights and music.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the North Pole with candy canes for the kids.
Genealogy group
potluck, sharing
Linn Genealogical Society will hold its annual holiday potluck at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Albany Regional Museum, 136 Lyon Street S., Albany.
There will be door prizes and members share what they learned this past year and any trips they have taken. Sharing is not mandatory, but is always a great learning session, a way for members to get better acquainted.

Scriptural truths
Meet local Christian author Bobbie Gannon from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Think Brain Candy Books and Tea, 678 Main St.
Gannon has written “Christianity Plain and Simple” to preserve the heartfelt revelations she’s received over the years, both through her own ministry and from the experiences of her children and grandchildren.
This book is a down-to-earth collection of deep spiritual, biblical truths, expressed with love.

Women Voters to talk redistricting
The League of Women Voters will hold a forum on the redistricting process, how it affects elections and government in Oregon, and the League’s proposal for reforming the process. The forum will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Lakeside Center, at 2180 54th St. in Albany.
It will be free and all are welcome to attend.
Redistricting is the process of redrawing the lines that define political districts. For congressional and state legislative districts, this typically occurs every 10 years, after completion of the U.S. Census. In Oregon, as in many states, legislators are charged with drawing the lines.
Norman Turrill, president of the League, will be a featured speaker at the forum along with with Sweet Home High School alum Candalynn Johnson, who is the LWV’s Oregon Redistricting Reform Campaign coordinator.
The Dec. 4 forum is part of the League’s larger statewide effort to teach voters about issues that affect them.

The 37th annual production of the Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree, “The Christmas Tree Trail,” is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-8, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Sweet Home High School auditorium, 1641 Long St.
The performance is free, but donations are accepted.
Gingerbread house
contest Dec. 8
The Sweet Home Mennonite Church hosts its second annual Gingerbread Competition from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the church’s activity center at 1266 44th Ave.
To enter a gingerbread house in the competition, registration and rules can be picked up at the church or the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce, and entries must be delivered on Dec. 7. It is free to enter.
Entries will be on display to the general public. Those who wish to view the entries are asked to bring a donated canned food item as an entry fee. Donations will go to SHEM.
A free raffle for a gingerbread house will be held, and food will be available for purchase.
SHHS Alumni tree
auction Dec. 8
The Sweet Home Alumni Foundation will host its 15th annual Decorated Tree Auction from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Sweet Home High School cafeteria, 1641 Long St.
This year’s theme is “An Oregon Trail Christmas.” Live, decorated trees, sponsored and designed by businesses and individuals, will be available for bid. A silent auction features holiday gifts, baked goods, handcrafted items and theme baskets.
Cost to attend is $25 per person and includes a holiday dinner buffet and dessert. Proceeds from the tree auction support college scholarships for SHHS graduation seniors. The decorated trees will be on display from 12 to 2 p.m. Dec. 8.

Free Christmas
Store Dec. 15
The fourth annual Kids Free Christmas Store will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Evangelical Church Gym, 1347 Long St.
The event provides the opportunity for any child to shop for free for parents and siblings.
New, unwrapped gifts for any ages are being accepted at Trash to Treasure, 1023 Main St. or the Chamber of Commerce, Evangelical Church, The Barn Sale (Cassie Richey) or Foster Lake Mall. Please give only new items.

Meals on Wheels
weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Dec. 30, is scalloped potatoes and turkey ham or beef Spanish rice bake, green beans, tossed salad, rye roll and chocolate oatmeal bar.
The menu on Monday, Dec. 3, is beef and cabbage bake or macaroni and cheese, broccoli, spinach Romaine salad, onion roll and mandarin oranges.
The menu on Tuesday, Dec. 4, is chicken in peanut sauce with brown rice or beef enchilada bake, mixed vegetables, Romaine iceberg salad, herb roll and cherry gelatin with whipped topping.
Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
