Sweet Home Police Department is accepting applications for the annual Shop With A Cop kids program to be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Bi-Mart in Sweet Home.
SHPD is also accepting applications for its Teen Sharing Tree. Children must be 4-12 years of age for SWAC and 13-18 for the Teen Tree, be enrolled in and actively attending school and be a resident within the Sweet Home School District.
The number of applicants for Shop With A Cop Event is limited; there is no limit on Teen Tree applications. Deadline for applications will be Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Mat Club sign-ups
Tuesday, Thursday
Youth wrestling sign-ups for Sweet Home Mat Club are being held this week, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Sweet Home High School gymnasium, 1641 Long St.
Participation is open to boys and girls ages 5 (kindergarten) through sixth grade. Cost for the season is $75, in addition to $45 for a USA Wrestling membership. There will be a $150 maximum per family for participation fees.

Churches to hold
Halloween events
n Community Chapel will hold its annual Trunk or Treat event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 42250 Ames Creek Road.
The harvest party includes live music, free hot dogs and soda, a photo booth, trunk-and-treating, and much more.
n Holley Church will hold its 13th Annual Trick or Treat Street from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Sweet Home Boys & Girls Club, 880 18th Ave.
The event includes trick or treating, hot chocolate, candy, and raffle in the parking lot sponsored by the church and Coffee Hut. The Boys & Girls Club will offer carnival games and chili in the gym.
Driving permit
class at SH LBCC
Linn-Benton Community College’s Extended Learning program will offer Driver Permit Preparation at the Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St.
Driver Permit Preparation is designed for those preparing to test for the first time or for those who need to study to retest. The course covers the Oregon Driver Manual and what prospective drivers need to know to pass the Oregon Driver permit test to obtain an Oregon Driver Instructional Permit.
The two-week course is offered at the Sweet Home Center starting Thursday, Nov. 1, 5:30 to 7:20 p.m. Cost is $59.

B&G Club sports
Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam must register for late winter basketball by Thursday, Nov. 1, to participate in the winter season’s sports.

Citywide clean-up

The City of Sweet Home is inviting citizens to join a fall citywide cleanup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3.
The Sweet Home Sanitation Transfer Station will accept numerous items free during the event. Those include bulk items; yard debris; old lumber; scrap metal; bagged trash; old appliances; electronic waste, like computers, monitors and TVs; and passenger and light truck tires.
Unacceptable items are loose trash, liquid waste, paint, pesticides, large truck tires and commercial demolition debris.
Symphony to play Dvorak, more
Willamette Valley Symphony will perform works by Enesco, Galliano, Whelan and Dvorak beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Ashbrook Independent School, 4045 Research Way, Corvallis.
Accordianist Sergei Teleshev is guest soloist to perform Dvorak’s Symphony No. 1.
Also on the program are Enesco’s Roumanian Rhapsody No. 1, Galliano’s Opale Concerto for Accordian, and Whelan’s Firedance. Conductor will be Andres Rodriguez.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and over and students, and free at the door for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for season packages (four concerts).

River Center
Craft and Gift Fair
The River Center will host its 10th Annual Holiday Craft and Gift Fair from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at 3000 S. Santiam Hwy.
Admission is free. Vendors will offer a variety of hand-crafted and other gift items including baked goods, soaps, jams and syrups, doll clothes, natural fiber hats, basketry and beading, wood and metal work, candles, cards, jewelry, artwork, etched glass, and much more.
Food will be available for breakfast and lunch.

East Linn Christian Academy will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at 36883 Victory Drive, off south 5th Street.

Beautification work

A work party for Sweet Home Beautification will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11th Avenue and Main Street, next to Key Bank. Any necessary tools and vests will be provided.

Free Going into
Business class
Oregon Small Business Development Center will host a free Going into Business class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Early Dawn Bakery, 431 Main St., Brownsville.
Instructor George Medellin will teach basic information needed to begin planning a successful business. Topics include rules, regulations, financing, markets, feasibility and more.

Brownsville Community Library will host a presentation on India’s fabled Rajasthan at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at 146 Spaulding Ave.
Rajasthan is the most colorful region of the most colorful country. The dramatic history of invasion, cultural development and unbelievable wealth of the rajahs are stories that have to be seen as well as heard.
Travel photographer Donald Lyon will make India come alive for you, including Delhi, Agra, Khajuraho and Varanasi as well.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Nov. 2, is braised beef tips or creamed chicken and vegetables, whipped potatoes, mixed vegetables, seven grain roll and chocolate ice cream cup.
The menu on Monday, Nov. 5, is vegetarian chili or chicken lo mein, green peas, spinach Romaine salad, onion roll, gelatin jewels with whipped top.
The menu on Tuesday, Nov. 6, is shaved turkey or meatloaf sandwich half, wheat bread corn chowder, pickled beets and Mandarin oranges.
