Celebration July 4

Lebanon’s Star Spangled Cele-bration will be held Wednesday, July 4, at Cheadle Park.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Parking is $10 per carload or $3 each for walk-ins. No pets allowed.

Activities include magic performances, live music, face painting, a bounce house ($1 per bounce, $5 per wristband), and food vendors.

There will be lots of kids games and crafts, all free.

The Fire in the Sky Fireworks Show will run from 10 to 10:30 p.m.

Artists to show off

skills at gallery

Rob Robinson and Cheryl French will be the featured artists in demonstrations presented Friday, July 6, at Gallery Calapooia, 222 First Ave. W. in downtown Albany.

The first demonstration will be given by French, who will show her printmaking skills at 6 p.m. followed by Robinson, who will demonstrate his method of making collages at 7 p.m.

A reception from 6 to 8 p.m. will feature the works of 17 other mid-valley artists as well as Robinson and French. Beer, wine, and snacks will be served.

Country singer at The Point Sunday

The Point Summer Concert Series presents Briana Renea Sunday, July 8, at 6305 Highway 20 in Sweet Home, next to Foster Lake.

Performances start around 6 p.m.

A native of Canby, Renea sings original country music about real-life experiences happening around her. She has traveled and entertained country fans throughout the Northwest, and shared the stage with notable acts such as Joe Nichols, Old Dominion, Canaan Smith and Sammy Kershaw.

workshop offered

Samaritan Health Services will host a Living Well With Chronic Conditions workshop from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Monday, beginning July 9, at the Sweet Home Health Center, 799 Long St.

The six week class is open to anyone with a chronic condition, such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, or COPD. Participants will learn how to manage medications, fight fatigue and frustration, deal with depression, start an exercise program, eat well, manage stress, help control pain, handle emotions and meet goals.

Landlord-tenant

law workshop

A workshop on Landlord Tenant Law will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in the Brownsville Community Library Kirk Room, which is located at 146 Spaulding Ave. in Brownsville.

The workshop will be the first in a quarterly Lawyer in the Law Library series being hosted by the Brownsville Community Library and the Linn County Law Library.

A volunteer lawyer from Legal Aid of Oregon will be the guest speaker. The workshop is free and open to the public.  No registration is required.  Questions will be welcome.

Sprenger to speak at After 5 dinner

Local women are invited to After 5 Connection’s monthly dinner and program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at The Lobby, 661 S. Main St.

State Rep. Sherrie Sprenger will speak about patriotism, independence and keeping the momentum going from Independence Day and “Celebrate America!”

Kathy Beoka, a soloist from Lebanon will sing.

Lynne Franz from Hermiston, a popular and humorous speaker for women’s groups and retreats, will speak about changes in her life and how to embrace change to find purpose and meaning in life.

Cost is $8.50, which includes everything. Credit cards cannot be accepted. RSVPs are required.

Arts/Crafts show vendor openings

The Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree will hold its annual Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Sweet Home High School.

The show will include vendors throughout the Willamette Valley and the coast. This year, as a tribute to Sweet Home picking the Capitol’s Tree, there will be the opportunity for members of the public to make ornaments for the trees that will be sent to Washington D.C.

Opportunities are still available for vendors.

Bike tour around

Lebanon July 14

The Lebanon Trail Tour by Bicycle will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14, beginning in the south parking lot of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 Santiam Hwy. SE, Lebanon.

Early arrival is recommended so participants can sign in and then leave as a group at 9 a.m. Wider tread tires are recommended and a helmet is required, with the time estimated at around four hours for the 18-mile-long ride.

Digital workshop

Wednesday, July 11, is the final day to register for a Digital Transformation Seminar that will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Sweet Home Center, open to local business proprietors.

Topics to be covered include brand identity and consistency, website design elements, the basics of being seen on Google or Bing (website SEO) and integrating marketing through the web and social media. Cost is $29 for Chamber of Commerce members, $49 for non-Chamber members. Registration deadline is Wednesday, July 11.

Free follow-up one-on-one website audits are also offered to participants July 19-20.

These services are typically available commercially at exponentially higher costs.

Participation is limited to 40 people.

Blues guitarist at

Marks Ridge

Marks Ridge Winery kicks off its summer concert series with blues guitar artist Froggy at 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, at 29255 Berlin Road.

Bring your own picnic or snacks and enjoy open air seating at bistro tables or bring a chair or blanket.

The concert is the first of weekly Friday night offerings through August at the winery, which will feature a wide range of musical styles. Cover is $10 per person. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Vendor openings

for Health Fair

The third annual Sweet Home Community Health Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

The fair will take place in the Sweet Home High School activity gym, 1641 Long St. Health-related businesses are invited to register for a booth at the event by contacting Bob Dalton at (541) 367-5371. Booths will feature health screenings such as blood pressure checks, heel density scans, balance checks, dental checks, and eye checks for kids. Also on hand will be information about the Oregon Health Plan and other insurance options.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, July 6, is shoyu chicken or meatloaf with brown gravy, Delmonico potatoes, green peas, whole wheat bread and chocolate pudding.

The menu on Monday, July 9, is herbed chicken patty with poultry gravy or liver and onions, whipped potatoes with gravy, Capri blend vegetables, herb bread and chocolate chip bar.

The menu on Tuesday, July 10, is beef and black bean chili or turkey tetrazzini, herbed carrots, spinach Romaine salad, white dinner roll and strawberry ice cream cup.
