Summer exchange

Linn-Benton County 4-H is seeking host families for Japanese youths from July 23 to Aug. 18.

The program is open to area families who have a child close in age to the Japanese youths, who are all between 12 and 16. Families do not have to be currently involved in 4-H to participate in the program.

Host families are asked to include their new family member in their regular activities including family trips and outings, sporting events, camps, visiting friends and relatives, running errands and even doing chores.

Families do not have to plan special activities or incur extra expenses; just treat them as a member of the family.

Free lunch for kids

through Aug. 25

Sweet Home School District will provide free lunch to children ages 18 and younger through Aug. 25.

No meals will be served on Aug. 3 and 4, due to the Oregon Jamboree.

Lunch is served from 11:45 to 12:15 p.m. at the following locations:

n Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St. (Breakfast will be served from 9 to 9:30 a.m.)

n Hawthorne Elementary, 3205 E. Long St

n Oak Heights Elementary, 610 Elm St.

n Pleasant Valley Little Promises, 28028 Pleasant Valley Rd. (Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.)

Lunch is served from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the following locations:

n Ashbrooke Park, 28th Ave & Juniper St.

n Northside Park, 11th Ave & Redwood St.

n Skate Park, 1920 Long St.

Bible study weekly

at Christian Church

Sweet Home Christian Church is holding a community Bible study from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays in the education building at 18th and Long St.

Everyone is welcome.

The study topic will be the book of Ephesians until Aug. 31.

Country artist Guy

to play The Point

Melody Guy will provide entertainment at The Point Saturday, July 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Guy, based in Nashville, Tenn., has created her own blend of country-flavored music. She’s released seven albums since 1995 and had songs recorded by Jessie James, Amanda Williams, Sherrie Austin, and independant artists. She has performed the national anthem for the Pittsburgh Pirates at a home game.

Free reception for community art

The public is invited to a free reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to celebrate the opening of the 12th annual Community Art Show at the Giustina Gallery in The LaSells Stewart Center at Ore-gon State University.

The show will run through July 27. Attendees can meet participating artists, and there will be complimentary appetizers and a no-host bar.

PEO berry sale

deadline July 7

Local Chapter DD – PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is holding its annual berry sale.

This fund-raiser allows PEO members to provide scholarships to local young ladies seeking higher education. It’s a great way to help and the berries are excellent.

The nine-pound pails of flash-frozen strawberries, marionberries or blueberries are $26 each.

The deadline to order is Friday, July 7.

Orders will arrive and will need to be picked up in Sweet Home on Saturday, Aug. 12.

Brewketts to play

at Marks Ridge

The Brewketts will perform on the patio at 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Marks Ridge Winery, 29255 Berlin Road.

The Eugene-based acoustic trio plays a blend of rock, blues, and folk.

Arts and Crafts

Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree will host an Arts and Crafts Show from 9 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8, on the Sweet Home High School Walkway, 1641 Long Street.

The event will include vendors from throughout Linn County, the Willamette Valley and the coast.

Food concessions will be available all day.

Parking lot sale

The second annual Sweet Home Outtasight Party parking lot sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., directly behind Trash to Treasure and across from the fire station in the 1000 block of Long Street.

Vendors of all sorts will have merchandise for sale; local band Loki’s Labyrinth will perform from 10 a.m. to noon; and there will be a hippie costume contest.

Women’s dinner to feature candle talk

Lebanon’s After 5 Connection will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at The Lobby.

Camelia Moss, owner of Camelia’s Candles, will talk about the art of candle making. Pam Pingle from Medford will share about spending life in a bubble of protection and how to find a bubble that will never burst.

Lebanon Concert in the Park July 11

Lebanon’s summer Concerts in the Park series takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday beginning July 11 at Ralston Park, at Park and Oak streets.

The performances are open to the public at no cost.

The July 11 performer will be Morgan Alexander, singer, songwriter, musician, radio personality and entertainer. Alexander plays both jazz/blues and country music.

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $3.50.

The menu on Friday, July 7, is rotisserie style chicken or meatloaf with gravy, Delmonico potatoes, green peas, wheat bread and homestyle chocolate pudding.

The menu on Monday, July 10, is breaded baked fish with Tartar sauce or teriyaki meatballs, garden vegetable rice, broccoli cuts, marinated zucchini salad and cookies-and-cream pudding.

The menu on Tuesday, July 11, is roast turkey or homestyle pork patty, whipped sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, onion bread and ice cream cup.
