Rockhounds to meet Wednesday
Sweet Home Rock and Mineral Society will meet at 6:30 Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Santiam Place meeting hall, 139 Main St., Lebanon.
The group promotes rock hounding, lapidiary arts and earth sciences. Come at 6:30 p.m. for a potluck dinner, followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Bring rocks for show and tell, and other activities.

‘Meatball’ comedy this weekend
Lebanon Association for Theatre Arts will present “Million Dollar Meatball,” a slapstick comedy, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 11 at Lebanon High School Performing Arts Center.
The family-friendly play, directed by Emily Latimer, tells the story of two bumbling jewel thieves on the run from the cops, who duck into a failing restaurant whose chef has just quit, and which is expecting the arrival of the city’s most powerful restaurant critic.
Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors.

Sunshine benefit
Sunshine Industries will present Americana artist Melody Guy in a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1333 Clark Mill Road.

Foster Dam Road closure Feb. 14, 15
The road over Foster Dam will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 14, and Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in order to conduct a dive operation to remove fish monitoring equipment from the dam.

Foundation grant deadline Feb. 15
The Sweet Home Community Foundation has begun its annual grant cycle and is seeking proposals.
The goal of the foundation is to provide funding and support to a wide variety of Sweet Home community projects. Special consideration is placed on projects that provide lasting benefits to our community.
Grants are given in the following broad categories: Children and Families; Education; Community Livability; and Arts and Culture. Grants of between $250 and $2,500 are awarded but consideration will be given to requests up to $5,000 based upon the project need and quality.

Completed applications must be returned to the SHCF, P.O. Box 24, Sweet Home, OR 97386 by 5 p.m. on Feb. 15.
Grant applicants must be a 501(c) or other qualified tax-exempt organization or the proposed project may be implemented in partnership or affiliation with such an organization.
Grant award recipients will be announced in March.
Learn to manage
chronic pain
Samaritan Health Services will offer a chronic pain management class from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at The Lodges Apartments conference room, 300 Boulder Falls Drive, Lebanon.
PainWise – First Steps is a free, six-week program from Samaritan Health Services designed to help patients learn to manage their chronic pain.
The class will be taught by a behavioral psychologist and physical therapist, who help participants understand why people have pain and learn tools to manage chronic pain, including the use of gentle movement.
PainWise-First Steps is based on recent research that has shown that movement, meditation and other alternative practices can help patients with chronic pain.
Classes will teach participants about chronic pain, how to develop and practice pain management skills, how to move more comfortably, and how to improve quality of life.

Class for start-up, transition farmers
Oregon State University will offer a class, “Growing Farms: Successful Whole Farm Management,” both online and in Corvallis.
The series is intended for people who are considering starting a farm, those within their first five years of farming and others who may be considering major changes to their business.
The course will cover goals, production and marketing options, and profitability.
The class includes six online modules, three in-class meetings and a full-day farm tour at three locations. The course can also be taken solely online.

Fireside story

Lebanon Public Library will present an evening fireside program featuring storyteller Habiba Addo at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.
There is no charge.
Addo is a native of Ghana, west Africa and holds a degree in Theater and a Certificate of Dance from Portland State University.
She has performed and taught in the United States and internationally for over fifteen years. She also shares the rich African cultures present today in Cuba and Brazil.

The Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be held March 11 at the Jim Riggs Community Center.
Award nominations can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce. Deadline for submissions is Monday, Feb. 17.
Awards will be presented in the following categories: Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, Distinguished Service, First Citizen, Junior First Citizen and Patti Woods Woman of the Year.
Table sponsorships are also available, for either a half table of 10 or a full table of 20.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Feb. 10, is chicken patty or roast pork, both with gravy, whipped sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, wheat bread and lemon whip.
The menu for Monday, Feb. 13, is baked chicken supreme or Salisbury patty with gravy, Colcannon potatoes, succotash, onion bread and strawberry ice cream.
The menu for Tuesday, Feb. 14, is roast turkey or meatloaf, both with gravy, whipped potatoes with gravy, Oregon bean medley, cracked wheat bread and Valentine’s Day cake.
