Lebanon Thursday

The 1847 Annex Bar and Deluxe Brewing Company will host Oktoberfest from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at at 505 Mullins Drive in Lebanon.

This celebration will include a full lineup of beers, including Albany-based Deluxe’s fall seasonal Oktoberfest-style Festbier, giveaways and authentic German food.

The event is open for guests 21 years and older. The 1847 Annex Bar is located on the second level at the Boulder Falls Inn hotel on the Samaritan Health Sciences Medical Campus.

Methodist church rummage sale

Sweet Home United Methodist Church will hold a “Good Stuff Sale” Oct. 7 and 8 at the church, 845 6th Ave.

Sale items will include furniture, portable heaters, tools, household items, skis, bikes and more.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Hospital surgery

open house Friday

Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital is inviting the public to an open house in the hospital’s new Surgery and Same Day Surgery departments, before these areas are sterilized and put to use.

The open house is scheduled for from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the hospital, 525 N Santiam Hwy. Snacks and door prizes will be available.

The project adds 15,000 square feet of building space to the hospital, along with a renovation of 10,000 square feet of the existing hospital. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.

Teen Challenge BBQ RSVP Friday

Oct. 7 is the deadline to RSVP for Adult & Teen Challenge’s Western Shindig fund-raiser, to be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at the TC Corral, (AKA the organization’s Willamette Valley Campus), 31700 Fayetteville Drive in Shedd.

The event includes a western barbecue dinner at 6:30 p.m., following a social hour and “Hollering Fund-Raising” at 5:30. Ranch Hands will tell “heart-warmin’, life-changin’ stories” at 7:30.

Single seats are available for $40. Tables of eight are available for $300.

Squarenaders to hold Hobo Dance

Sweet Home Squarenaders will hold a “Hobo Square Dance” starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Oak Heights School Gym, 6th Ave-nue and Elm Street.

The Plus starts at 7:30 p.m., with the main square dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Caller will be Jim Voll and Jackie Gale will cue round dances.

Hobo stew will be served at 7 p.m. Suggested donation for adults is $5, and youths is $4.

‘Amazing Race’

Break The Chain will conduct an “Amazing Race”-style event to focus on domestic violence and bullying at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Schmizza Public House, 2602 S. Santiam Hwy. In Lebanon.

Entry cost is $5 per person, with proceeds going to local domestic violence and bullying prevention efforts.

To participate, fill your car with two to four people dressed in a family-friendly theme and visit various stops around Lebanon, where you will get clues on how to proceed. All the other details are secret.

After the race enjoy some great music by Rock n Roll Cowboys, from 7 to 9 p.m., during which prizes will be awarded.

Outdoor survival class Saturday

Sweet Home Ranger District is offering a General Outdoor Preparedness class Saturday, Oct. 8.

The eight-hour class, half in the classroom and half hands-on, is a great way to learn how to stay alive in the woods in Western Ore-gon. Learn to start a fire with very little. Gain knowledge and learn skills to save lives.

The class will include a short hike, with participants working on skills along the way, weather permitting. If weather is bad, an alternative exercise will be conducted. Dress for the weather and bring a day pack and a lunch.

LBCC offers Brain Boosters class

Brain Boosters: Awaken Your Memory will be held from 9 to 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way.

The workshop will help participants stimulate their brains to recall events and details in effective and fun ways.

Lebanon women to meet Oct. 11

Lebanon’s After Five Connection will hold its monthly dinner, themed “Simply Ceramics,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at The Lobby (Formerly King’s Coffee House), 661 S. Main St. in Lebanon.

All women – working, college students, moms, etc. are invited.

Nadra Richey will demonstrate how ceramics are made and the fun things one can do with them. Guest speaker Jan Bonn of Richland, an author and elementary teacher who loves walking dirt roads, watching geese and hawks, hearty soups and grand pianos, will share how she dealt with a fear of failure with humor.

Cost is $8.50 and only cash will be accepted. All women are welcome.

Quilting class in

Sweet Home

A Quilters Workshop will be offered from 7 to 7:50 p.m. Thursdays, starting Oct. 13, at Sweet Home High School.

The Linn-Benton Community College class is open to all ability levels. Participants will learn two traditional patterns, the tulip and the log cabin, to make a medallion-style quilt.

Zombie Zoup Run

date creeps closer

Get ready to travel with the Walking Dead Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Zombie Zoup Run, to be held at the Jim Riggs Community Center.

The 2-mile event will benefit Sunshine Industries and will cover favorite Zombie haunts such as the South Hills Trail, Sankey Park and more populated areas.

Cost is $20 for pre-registrants, $25 on the day of the event. Shirts for adults are $15 each, $10 for children. Shirts are guaranteed to those who register prior to Oct. 15.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The lunch menu on Friday, Oct. 7, is BBQ chicken or kielbasa sausage on a bun, spinach, Deutsch potato salad, apple crisp.

The menu for Monday, Dec. 30, is ground beef and noodles or sweet and sour chicken and rice, whole kernel corn, marinated spring garden salad, multigrain roll and cinnamon applesauce.

The menu for Tuesday, Oct. 11, is pork roast with gravy or beef mushroom patty, whipped potatoes, Oregon bean medley, rye bread and homestyle chocolate pudding.
