for Salmon Watch
The Linn Benton Salmon Watch Field Trip Program is looking for volunteers to help teach hands-on science to fifth- and sixth-grade students from the mid-Willamette Valley schools.
The field trips take place on the South Santiam River in September and the Alsea River later in the fall. Volunteers will help students observe salmon spawning, take macroinvertebrate samples, test water quality, and make stream bank assessments to better understand watershed health.
The Linn Benton Salmon Watch partners are holding two free trainings, on Sept. 10 and Oct. 15. This opportunity is a fun outdoor experience for people of all ages.

Republicans to meet in Albany
The Linn County Republican Party will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Pop’s Branding Iron, 901 Pacific Blvd. SE, in Albany.
Updates of national and local politics will be presented. A $1,000 “Grab a Grand” raffle will be held. Tickets are $5 each.

Free square dance demo, lesson
Lebanon Square Circlers will entertain the public with a free Demonstration Square Dance from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Farmers Market, on the corner of Grant and Main streets, in Lebanon.
The club invites everyone to come and watch (and maybe even learn a few moves).

Museum offers
‘Denby Truck’ tour
The East Linn Museum will offer guided a guided tour entitled “The Tale of the Denby Truck” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 and 15, at 746 Long St.
The Denby Truck exhibit will be re-opened during these times. Museum volunteers will be available to briefly guide you through the wild history of this unique item in our museum. There is no charge for this event but donations are always welcome.
Farmer’s Market
annual fall dinner
Sweet Home Farmer’s Market will hold its Fall Festival Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the VFW Hall, 580 Main St., in Sweet Home.
Authentic classic dishes using locally grown ingredients will be served.
The menu includes salad with mixed greens and bread basket, Italian antipasto, lasagna a la fraga, assorted sweets for dessert and organic free-trade coffee and tea. Beer and wine will be available at the VFW cash bar.

Sweet Home Class of 1956 will hold its 60th Reunion Sept. 9-11 in various locations around Sweet Home.
Alums from the Classes of 1955 through 1960 are invited to participate in the events below.
An informal potluck for 1956 alumni only will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Roberts Park, 41041 Port Drive.
A Multi-Class Potluck will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Roberts Park. Table service will be provided. Bring your own drinks and lawn chairs, plus a choice of main dish, salad, dessert, appetizers, etc.

Best in the West Triathlon series will take place this weekend at Lewis Creek Park.
Volunteers are still needed for a wide range of responsibilities. Opportunities exist for fund-raising by local groups and athletic teams.

Performers to tell
tale of wagon train
Linn County Historical Museum will host a fund-raiser performance of “Hard Way to the Valley,” a performance by five narrators who will tell the story of the arduous journey of the Lost Wagon Train of 1853 that brought 1,000 pioneers to the Willamette Valley.
The 70-minute performance will be at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Brownsville Community Church, one block north of Highway 228 on Washburn Avenue, in historic Brownsville. In lieu of an admission fee, LCHM Friends ask for donations to benefit the museum.

Build Lebanon Trails at McDowell Creek Falls will host a hike at McDowell Creek Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
Dress appropriately for the weather and appropriate shoes for the terrain. Well-mannered and leashed dogs are welcome.
Squarenaders plan
Pie Night dance
Sweet Home Squarenaders will hold a Pie Night Square Dance starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Oak Heights school gym, 6th Avenue and Elm Street.
The Plus will start at 7:30 p.m., with the main square dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Square dance caller will be Jim Voll, with Jackie Gale cueing round dances.
A potluck will be held at the break; club members are each asked to bring a pie. Suggested donation for adults is $5; youths are $4.

Lebanon brewfest, 1-mile Beer Run
The Second Annual Growler Cafe Anniversary/Brewfest will be held starting with the annual one-mile Beer Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 43 W. Grant St. in Lebanon.
The Brewfest officially begins at 11 a.m. This is a family event. Area streets will be closed down and beer from 20 different breweries will be served, along with live music in two venues, fun and games, and more. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam.

Women’s dinner in Lebanon Tuesday
Lebanon’s After Five Connection will hold its monthly dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy. in Lebanon.
Carolyn Kniefel, of Payette, Idaho, will speak. She is a lifetime creator of miniature rooms and doll houses and will share many of her doll houses. Girls 7 and older are welcome to come and enjoy the beautiful doll houses with their moms. She will talk about “Think Small.”
Special music will be presented by June Watts of Lebanon.
Cost is $8.50 and only cash will be accepted.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Sept. 9, is turkey patty or pork choppie, both with gravy, Lyonnaise potatoes, broccoli cuts, sunflower seed bread and watermelon.
The menu for Monday, Sept. 12 is orange glazed chicken or roast pork with gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans, cornmeal bread and apple harvest cake.
The menu for Tuesday, Sept. 13, is shaved turkey or meatloaf sandwich half on wheat bread, corn chowder, country coleslaw and mixed fruit cup.
