PTSD class

A

women’s PTSD Class is being offered from 6 to 7 p.m. on Fridays at

Sweet Home Christian Church, 1825 Long St., in the education

building.

The

class is open to the community and free of charge. The purpose for us

coming together is to strengthen each other as we move forward.

PTSD does not need to be battled alone. The purpose of the

class is to offer PTSD victims a safe place to heal.

auction

Thursday

Hawthorne

Elementary School will host an auction, raffle and carnival at 5 p.m.

on Thursday, June 2, at the school.

Shopping

event

to

continue June 4

The

Sweet Home Outtasight Party (SHOP) Committee will hold the event on

four more weekends this summer, monthly.

The

outdoor market and shopping event will be held Saturdays on June

4, July 9, Aug. 6, and Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Locations

will include all downtown businesses that want to participate, as

well as the parking lot in the 1000 block of Long Street, behind

Trash to Treasure and Hippie Hollow. Each event will include vendors,

a live band, hula hoop demonstrations, and a full concession stand.

There will also be games for children and prizes.

Adults

and children are encouraged to dress in hippie garb. Prizes will

be awarded for best costumes.

Vendors

can sign up at Trash to Treasure, 1023 Main St., Sweet Home. Cost to

participate as a vendor is $10.

Club show

Lebanon

Garden Club will present its Strawberry Frontier Flower, Quilt and

Art Display from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, and Saturday,

June 4, at the IOOF Hall, 20 E. Ash St. in Lebanon.

This

is a non-judged event. The public is invited to bring flowers,

horticulture and floral designs, along with quilts and art, for

display to the IOOF Hall from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 2, and from

9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 3. All plant and flower entries need to be

in your own containers or vases.

Walkers

welcome in Lebanon parade

Build

Lebanon Trails members of the community who enjoy walking to join in

the 107th Annual Strawberry Festival Grand Parade Saturday, June 4.

Meet

at the staging area at the Wal-Mart parking lot by 10:30 a.m. on the

day of the parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Those who have BLT gear

(sweatshirts, caps, BLT and event T-shirts, etc.) are asked to wear

it to help show support but that is not required. The walk with be

about three miles round trip on pavement.

Well-mannered,

leashed dogs are welcome, but be prepared to pick up after your

animal(s).

Genealogist

to talk on ‘Find a Grave’

Historian

Karen Wallace Steely will speak on “Find a Grave” to the Linn

Genealogical Society at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Albany

Public Library Meeting Room, 2450 14th Ave. SE.

Are

you getting everything you can from Find A Grave? Steely will talk

about how there is more information available than just burial

records. Find A Grave includes biographical information, obituaries,

family relationships, and photographs. She will also discuss

contributing to Find A Grave and will demonstrate the additional

tools available to contributors and review the guidelines for

managing and transferring memorials, and the integration between

ancestry.com and Find A Grave.

Steely

has 30 years of experience in researching, writing and speaking as a

technology project manager, a historian and a genealogist. She has

a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of Missouri

in Kansas City and extensive involvement with local, national and

international societies .

The

public is welcome to attend.

Camp

Attitude BBQbenefit June 12

The

second annual Bo-Mack’s BBQ Benefit for Camp Attitude will be held

from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Monteith River Park, 489 Water

Ave. NW, Albany.

The

event will include the Bo-Mack Family Singers, Praise in 3D, Prairie

Dog Backfire and Trevor Tagle, among others.

In

addition to a full afternoon of uplifting music, there will be a

silent auction, a raffle, pie and rib eating contests, face painting

and of course, lots of good food.

A

free-will offering and all other proceeds will be donated to Camp

Attitude, near Cascadia, which serves about 250 special needs

families each summer.

Groups

come for eight one-week periods, where special needs children and

their families can engage in numerous indoor and outdoor activities

along the shores of the South Santiam River.

hike

to waterfalls

Sweet

Home Ranger District is offering a Wildflowers and Waterfalls hike

Wednesday, June 15, starting at 9 a.m. at the district headquarters,

4431 Highway 20.

The

activity includes an easy morning hike (three-mile round trip) to

Horse Rock Ridge, with a diverse array of wildflowers and great

views. In the afternoon, explore the waterfalls at McDowell Creek

Park for another easy three-mile stroll.

Cost

is $10 per person or $5 with a Senior or Access Pass. Register atwww.recreation.govor call 1-877-444-6777 and press #1 for tours. Tours often fill up

quickly, so early registration is recommended.

Fair for local residents June 29

Want

to weigh in on your future? Looking for a way to get involved?

Sweet

Home and east Linn County residents are invited to a Share Fair from

6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 29 at the Community Center for updates on a

number of community initiatives impacting current and future quality

of life.

Presenters

will include Oregon Department of Transportation on the Sheep Creek

bridge project and Pioneer Mountain; the Sweet Home Mill

redevelopment project; Linn County Shuttle’s Sweet Home to Clear

Lake Recreation Shuttle; South Santiam Watershed Council; South

Santiam All Lands Collaborative; Sweet Home Economic Development

Group on the Knife River property planning process; Visit Linn

Coalition; the U.S. Forest Service on the Cascadia Day Use area and

Trout Creek planning area; and Ford leadership training alumni on

economic development.

Other

potential presenters include Linn County Road Department on the

Quartzville and possible North River projects; Sweet Home Active

Revitalization Effort; Samaritan Health; Linn County Parks; Federal

Livability Initiative; Sweet Home Trails Alliance; and other

organizations with ongoing efforts benefitting from community input.
