Education Carnival
Linn-Co Federal Credit Union will hold a free Education Carnival from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at 540 Second St. in Lebanon.
Youngsters will learn how to balance a register, why they should save, VISA/ATM safety and cash counting, along with opportunities to win cool door prizes and lots of yummy carnival snacks.

Exhibit features Oregon prints
An exhibit of prints from Oregon State University’s Cascade Print Exchange IX, will be shown through April 24 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany.
The 105 prints on display are from this year’s Cascade Print Exchange. Because of their multiplicity, prints are often traded from artist to artist. Print exchanges foster a communication of ideas, explore others’ techniques as well as give a chance to form a connection between artists who have never met one another before.
The South Santiam Hall Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Ivy pull on South Hills Trail April 25
Sweet Home Trails will hold an Ivy Pull from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 25, on the South Hills Trail.
Celebrate Arbor Day by freeing a tree. Meet at the trail entrance at the south end of 5th Avenue, behind Oak Heights Elementary playground. Dutch Bros. will be donating coffee for this event. Sweet Home Trails will provide treats to go with the coffee.

SAFE duck race
deadline April 23
Seniors Alcohol-Free Entertainment organizers are holding the 2015 SAFE Duck Race Saturday, April 25.
The SAFE party will be held June 5, the night of graduation, to provide alcohol-free activities for graduating seniors.
Donors can adopt a rubber duck to float down Ames Creek from Sankey Park to 12th Avenue. Cost of adopting a duck is $5 each. Buy as many as you want. The goal is to sell 800 ducks – no more, no less.
Winners do not have to be present. Each duck will be numbered and the first one across the finish line will win. Ticket numbers will be mixed so purchasers have a better chance at winning.
The first duck across the line will win its “owner” $400, or 10 percent of the sales total if it is less than 800 ducks. Second place will win $250 or 6 percent of sales, and third will win $150 or 4 percent.
Deadline to purchase tickets and turn money in to Kristin Adams at the high school is the close of school on April 23.
Charlie Walker to perform gospel
Charlie Walker will perform a gospel concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Sweet Home Church of the Nazarene, 415 Holley Road.
The Prineville-based artist performed in a secular country band for eight years before beginning a solo career in gospel music. He has released four albums since 1999.

Parade of Species Saturday in Albany
Albany will hold its annual Parade of the Species at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, in its Historic Downtown.
Earth Day activities run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., centered at the Farmers Market on 4th and city hall parking lot.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 4th and Broadalbin, in front of the courthouse. Those participating should line up by 9:45 a.m. Anyone is welcome to create a costume and join the celebration of each other and our natural world. No written words. No motorized vehicles. No live animals.
The event will also include water education, photo booth, tree trivia, tree and plant give-aways, craft activities, downtown treats and prizes, free compost (bring your own container), worm composting, an “edible aquifer,” giveaways, a bounce house and face painting.

Lebanon chorus to perform Sunday
The Lebanon Community Chorus will perform its annual spring pops concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the First Assembly of God church, 726 W. Oak St. in Lebanon.
The pops concert will be the first for new Co-Directors Colin Salisbury and Kevin Nordquist, who have replaced retired Associate Director Paul Rowton.
The program includes favorite rock and pop songs spanning the last 40 years featuring artists such as Queen, Neil Diamond, The Beatles, and Elton John. Contemporary artist are also highlighted with selections by Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars and Cee-lo Green. Singers have spent the last three months preparing for the concert.
Also featured will be instrumentalists Bill Langdon on piano, Mark McAllister on bass and Adam Mah on drums.
Tickets are $8 for individuals, $5 for students/seniors, available at the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, or at the door.

Monday deadline for P.E.O. plant sale
P.E.O. Chapter FA of Sweet Home is holding its spring plant sale, which funds scholarships for deserving women in the area.
The sale includes annual and perennial bedding plants, organic veggies, herbs, beautiful planters, hanging baskets and more. All plants are Oregon-grown.

Foster Dam road closure Tuesday
The road over Foster Dam will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in order to raise the fish weir in the spillway to summer pool levels.
Due to crane operations, no pedestrians or vehicles will be able to pass over the dam.

Opera Guild to preview ‘Showboat’
The Linn-Benton Opera Guild will preview the opera “Showboat” by Jerome Kern at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at 303 Benton Hall, Oregon State University campus, Corvallis.
OSU music professor Angela Carlson will tell the story of the opera and play recorded excerpts from the score. Admission is free to Linn-Benton Opera Guild members, students of Linn-Benton Community College and OSU. Cost for the general public is $5.
“Showboat” will stage May 1, 5, 7 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay, Portland. Opera will be sung in English with projections above the stage.
A bus from Corvallis and Albany will be provided to the closing performance on Saturday, May 9 for those interested. Round-trip coach fare is $39 per person. Performance tickets are not included in trip cost. Seating reservations are required. Free cover crops info session offered
Linn Soil and Water Conservation District and Oregon State University Extension will hold an information session from 3 to 5 p.m Thursday, April 30, to look at increasing soil fertility and improving soil health and biology by using cover crops.
Linn County farmer Don Wirth of Cala Farms will host the event and share his experiences from utilizing cover crops on his seed farm for more than 15 years.
Discussion will include which cover crops grow well in the Willamette Valley for building biomass and sequestering carbon, cover crop varieties, seeding rates, rotation strategy, termination methods, pest and disease issues, cost efficiency and time commitment. Participants will walk fields and have the opportunity to climb into a soil pit to see the positive effects of years of building soil health.
This tour is for any farmer on any size farm wanting to learn more about building soil heath utilizing cover crops. There is no cost to attend, but an RSVP would be appreciated. RSVP at http://smallfarms.oregonstate.edu/south-valley/events.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, April 24, garden chicken or ham and cheese mini salad, spinach Romaine, chunky tomato rice soup, bran wheat roll and cinnamon applesauce.
The menu for Monday, April 27, is chicken divan bake or ground beef with pasta, chuckwagon corn, pickled beets, oat bran roll and Mandarin pineapple cup.
The menu for Tuesday, April 28, is turkey tetrazzini or cowboy campfire stew, mixed vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, potato wheat roll and rice pudding.
