Free lunch for
kids this summer
Sweet Home School District offers free lunch to local children ages 18 and younger through Aug. 22.
Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m . at Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St., Hawthorne Elementary School, 3205 Long St., and Oak Heights Elementary School, 610 Elm St.
Both breakfast, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at Little Promises, 28028 Pleasant Valley Road. Also, lunch will be served to attendees at Vacation Bible School at Bethel Lutheran Church (July 14-18).
No lunch will be served on July 4, due to the holiday, or Aug. 1, due to the Oregon Jamboree.

BBQ to raise funds for SH Foundation
Tickets are available for the Blackjack Billy Backyard BBQ and Auction planned for noon on Friday, Aug. 1.
Kick off Jamboree weekend with a barbecue lunch and a mini-acoustic set by Jamboree artist Blackjack Billy. Lunch includes two adult beverages, a commemorative reception poster and reception gifts. There is also a chance to bid on auction items, including a Jamboree VIP package.
All proceeds benefit the Sweet Home Community Foundation.

July 4 celebration set in Lebanon
The 11th annual Lebanon Community Foundation’s Star Spangled Celebration will be held at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon on July 4.
Gates open at 6 p.m. for the family-friendly old-fashioned celebration.
Activities include two concerts by Cross Stitch (a funk, soul, rock and jazz dance band) and Trevor Tagle a local country western entertainer.
Other activities include a magic show, juggling demonstration, the Samaritan stay fit walk by the lake, and kids activities including bounce houses, face painting, free kids games, crafts and coloring, and food booths.
Finally, at dusk will be the Fire in the Sky fireworks featuring the always-popular Wall of Fire.
Bring chairs and blankets and come early to stake out your spot for the fireworks, festival-seating style. Picnic coolers welcome, but not pets.

Humane Society
golf tournament
The Golf Club of Oregon in North Albany will host its 12th annual Stars ’N’ Stripes Better Ball Golf Tournament on Sunday, July 6, with net proceeds donated to SafeHaven Humane Society.
Anyone is eligible to play on the two-person better-ball team. The registration fee is $50 for a single player, $100 for a two-person team (without power cart) or $125 for a two-person team (with power cart -limited availability). The event includes breakfast, tee prizes, hole-in-one contest, low five team prizes, raffle and hosted happy hour.

Museum offers live
demonstration
Visit the East Linn Museum on the afternoons of July 11, 18 and 25 to see demonstrations of pioneer skills still practiced by creative people of today.
On July 11 at 1 p.m., special guests will be water color artist Don Ross and Jan Boucot, who specializes in fiber arts and will demonstrate spinning
On July 18 the Log Cabin Quilters Guild, a local group of quilters, will demonstrate different quilting techniques and share examples of their handiwork.
On July 25 Gretchen Schalager will bring a group to demonstrate the ancient art of calligraphy. Visitors may be rewarded with their names printed as an example to be taken home with them. In addition to the work of these local artists, visitors may also find of interest the quilts on permanent display at the museum. Some were made by the Jolly Stitchers, a group which has been in existence since 1932 and still meets weekly at the Sweet Home Senior Center. Another unique quilt is one made by the children of Sandridge School in 1902.
Hospital auxiliary
needs volunteers
The Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to help at the Garden Grounds espresso stand, Caring Corner and the other volunteer service areas at Lebanon Samaritan Community Hospital.
Medical training is not required, and all necessary training will be provided. Volunteers must be 15 or older. The auxiliary has raised tens of thousands of dollars that go back into the hospital, funding hospital departments and clinics.

Arts and Crafts show July 12
Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree will hold its annual Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, during Sportsman’s Holiday in front of Sweet Home High School, 1641 Long St.
Admission is free. The event will feature some 28 vendors from around the Willamette Valley. Proceeds benefit the three Singing Christmas Tree productions held the first full weekend of December.

Energy-saving tips at free workshop
Pacific Power is holding a free breakfast workshop for members of the public who would like to learn more about saving energy and money with programs and incentives offered by the company.
The event will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Albany Golf and Event Center, 155 Country Club Lane, Albany.
The workshop will provide a brief overview of how customers can take advantage of energy-saving programs and incentives, including efficient lighting, heating and cooling, renewable energy, engaging employees to save energy, and more.

Hillside Fellowship will hold Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon July 14-18 at 501 Nandina St.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
No lunch will be served July 4.
The menu for Monday, July 7, is breaded chicken patty or beef liver and onions, whipped potatoes with gravy, Capri blend vegetables, herb bread and golden fruit cup.
The menu for Tuesday, July 8, is breaded baked fish with Tartar sauce or BBQ smokehouse chop, garlic whipped potatoes, steamed spinach, sunflower seed bread, and gelatin jewels with whipped topping.
