Become a senior
ombudsman
Training to become a Certified Ombudsman Volunteer will begin early June in the Salem area.
These volunteers advocate for seniors who are living in long term care facilities and are trained to educate, investigate, and advocate for the rights of the resident and learn to be a “problem solver”. Training includes learning about resident rights, the aging process, communication skills, recognizing and reporting neglect and/or abuse, and rules and regulations for facilities in long-term care.
To be accepted into the five-day training, those wishing to apply should do so no later than June 3. Applications can be submitted electronically or by mail.
The Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman is an independent ‘watchdog’ agency of the State of Oregon, dedicated to protecting the rights, safety and dignity of the residents of nursing homes, residential care facilities, assisted living facilities and adult foster care homes. To report a concern about a long-term care facility, call 1-800-522-2602, visit http://www.oregon.gov/LTCO or email us at [email protected].

Steelheaders to
talk hatcheries
The Mid-Valley Chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders invites the public to attend the mid-valley premier of the documentary “Hatchery and Wild” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Albany Senior Center, 489 Water Avenue NW.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the video presentation following at 7, and a panel discussion. Admission is free.
Recent lawsuits intended to significantly reduce or eliminate hatchery fish from the Sandy and McKenzie Rivers prompted the Association of Northwest Steelheaders to lead the way in defending our sport fishing opportunities through the “Hatchery and Wild” campaign. The organization has been successful in minimizing the effects of the Sandy River lawsuit. The McKenzie lawsuit is the next hurdle. Local rivers may be the next targets of the anti-hatchery fish advocates. The video is also available at http://www.hatcheryandwild.com.
